The air ambulance has been called after a cyclist was injured during a crash which has closed a major link road.

Motorists are being asked to find alternative routes this afternoon following the crash, which happened in the Ribble Valley.

Police are currently dealing with the incident at the mini roundabout on the Pimlico Link Road next to Clitheroe Hospital.

It is believed a woman, who was riding a bike, was hit by a van close to the roundabout.

Roads in the immediate area have been closed so the air ambulance can land and treat the injured cyclist.

Traffic is backed-up close to Clitheroe Royal Grammar school along Chatburn Road.

Traffic is also affected for those motorists trying to leave the town.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We are currently dealing with an RTC at the mini roundabout of the Pimlico Link Road next to Clitheroe Hospital.

"We were called just before 3.30pm on Friday to reports of a collision involving a van and a cyclist.

"A road closure has been put in place to allow an air ambulance to land and for the female cyclist to receive treatment.

"Emergency services remain at the scene.

"Please avoid the area when travelling home.

"We will advise once it has reopened.

"Thank you for your patience."

"Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 0989 of May 28."
