An air rifle being carried in public by a teenager has been seized.

Police in Rossendale have seized their second air rifle this week, this time from a teenager who had the weapon in a public place.

The first was seized from someone who had been walking through the streets with it.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Rossendale’s Rural Task Force responded to reports of someone walking through the streets with a rifle and after enquiries located the person at a nearby address and seized it.

“The teenager will be dealt with in due course but it is worth mentioning that it is an offence under the Firearms Act 1968 for any person to have with them in a public place an air weapon whether loaded or unloaded."
