The driver of a Volkswagen Golf which was wrecked in a crash on the M65 tested positive for cocaine.

The M65 between junction six and seven was closed for four hours while the emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the crash.

The driver of the Golf tested positive for cocaine after crashing his car. He was not wearing a seatbelt but he only sustained minor injuries.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Please remember to drive to the conditions and wear a seatbelt. Unlike the driver of this Golf on the M65.

“Thankfully minor injuries but the motorway has been closed for a few hours. He has tested positive for cocaine and is being dealt with by officers.”

The road police added that they have arrested nine people in two days in East Lancashire for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

They added: “Disgracefully we have arrested nine drink or drug drivers over the past two night shifts. There is no excuse and it puts people's lives at risk.”
