A working men’s club has spent lockdown refurbishing their games room, dedicating it to a snooker loving late member.

St Paul’s WMI in Blackburn has seen full renovations in parts of the club, with the games room being re-wired, re-floored, insulated and painted while a new bar has also been installed.

The renovation of the games room have been dedicated to Terry ‘Tez’ Donnelly, who was a member from aged 18 until he died aged 61 from lung cancer in 2016.

His brother Barry said: “It was Tez’s dream to do the games room up and we have dedicated the games room to Tez.

“We have a plaque and a photo of him on the wall.”

Terry was an avid snooker player and was known well in Blackburn by many. He played a game against snooker legend Jimmy White at the institute a few months before his death.

Barry has been the main co-ordinator of the work as one of the committee members.

He said: “He would be really proud of it. I think we have done him proud. It’s a really good job.”

The club, which was established in 1914, re-opened to members on Monday, however most members will see the renovations for the first time on their members evening on Saturday.

Treasurer, George Duckworth said: “They can’t believe it’s the same club. It’s fantastic.”

The majority of the works have been completed by six members of the committee.
