FORMER Coronation Street favourite Vicky Entwistle seemingly quit Twitter last night, having grown tired of its ‘toxic’ content.

The 52-year-old Lancashire actress, best known for her portrayal of Janice Battersby on Coronation Street between 1997 and 2011, tweeted in the early hours of Monday morning to express her dismay at what she described as ‘nasty folk’.

In a series of three successive tweets to her 35,300 followers, Entwistle said that while she has enjoyed using the social media app in the past, she won’t be using it any longer.

She wrote: “I have such fun on Facebook, with 554 friends I adore, then I turn to this monstrosity! If you can’t help your fellow man….

“If all your days are filled with bile shut the F up. If politics have taken over putting the kettle on… shut the F up!!!

“You make me [crying emoji].”

Fifteen minutes later, she followed up with: “Honestly this forum could make anyone ill. I have the thickest skin imaginable, I’m from OSWALDTWISTLE but even I buckle at what I read!!! Nasty!

“It’s not for me anymore. I like people!”

After another fifteen minutes, at 01:47am, Entwistle put out her final tweet thanking her supporters: “Thank you for all the follows and the many giggles.

“I really appreciated it, but this place is toxic and it’s not for me! Good night, Vic x.”

Her @vicky_entwistle twitter handle remains active, though she has not responded or interacted with any of the messages of good will sent in response to her original tweets.

Having left the country’s most watched soap a decade ago, Entwistle became a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother in 2013 and spent 23 days in the house before being evicted in sixth place.

She most recently starred as Miss Prism in The Importance of Being Earnest at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre in 2019.
