A MAN will stand trial accused of stealing financial documents from a mosque during an alleged burglary.

Abubaker Deghayes faces two charges of entering a building in Brighton as a trespasser with intent to steal.

The 52-year-old was named in court where he denied the two charges.

It is alleged he went to the Brighton Mosque and Muslim Community Centre in Dyke Road in November last year.

He was charged over entering an office inside the mosque with intent to steal, and with intent to steal financial papers.

Deghayes, of Arundel Drive East, Saltdean, was named in a preliminary hearing at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on May 5, after earlier appearing in person to deny the charges at a previous hearing.

Magistrate Ian Goodwin set a new trial date for the case on September 20 this year.
