A TYRE company has been given planning permission to replace its existing sales and fitting building.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has approved the new premises despite a complaint by neighbours that the business leaves untaxed vehicles on the road nearby.

Mohammed Aslam of A1 Tyres in Clarendon Road, Roe Lee, Blackburn, applied for planning permission to demolish the existing 3.3 metre high building and construct a 6.1 metre high replacement.

The borough planning department approved the scheme with eight conditions.

An officer's report said: "The application site relates to an existing commercial use specialising in tyre retailing and fitting, located to the north of Clarendon Road, Blackburn.

"Planning permission is sought for demolition of the existing building and erection of a replacement building for use as a tyre retailing and fitting place.

"Eighteen neighbours were consulted by letter.

"The following (summary) comment was received: Untaxed vehicles associated with the business currently park on public highway.

"As a proposal involving a continuation of the existing use within a single-storey building occupying the same footprint, albeit higher, no additional noise impacts arise from the proposal.

"The site occupies a position to the north of Clarendon Road within a row dominated by a diverse range of commercial uses including buildings of various scale and appearance which are mainly utilitarian in design.

"No harm to street character will arise from the proposed building, notwithstanding the proposed height increase.

"Retention of the significant set back from the footpath, which will continue to be used for off street parking, will assist in softening its visual prominence."
