Liverpool football players have been preparing for tonight's clash with Manchester United by wearing special shirts in memory of a nine-year-old boy who died after he was struck by lightning.

The shirts, which are grey in colour have the number seven on the back with Jordan's name printed above.

The tribute has been hailed as a 'beautiful gesture' to the little lad, who loved football and was a keen Liverpool supporter.

Jordan was struck by lightning on Tuesday evening while out playing football on a field in Blackpool.

He was taken to hospital but sadly died from his injuries.

The 9-year-old was a keen football fan, and earlier this week, the England football team also paid tribute to the Stanley Primary School pupil.

Chief Inspector Chris Hardy from Lancaster and Morecambe police said on Twitter: "Beautiful gesture in memory of Jordan by @LFC."
