Neighbourhood police in Blackpool have provided a personal tribute to 'true angel' Jordan Banks, 9, who was tragically killed after being struck by lightning on Tuesday.

Officers were touched by Jordan's compassion and care during lockdown as the football-mad youngster was found to be secretly leaving tasty treats on police cars to help cheer up members of the force.

The nine-year-old also helped raise money for mental health charities and counselling services within the local community.

A spokesperson for Blackpool police said: "Yesterday we told you about the sad news of Jordan Banks from Blackpool.

"Today we would like to pay tribute to the compassionate and thoughtful little boy he was.

"Back in January when the country was in lockdown, Jordan was secretly leaving sweets and chocolates on police cars in Blackpool to cheer up our police officers.

"We are eternally grateful to him for the care he showed us during challenging times throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

"Jordan’s actions touched the hearts of our officers and we will always remember his kindness.

"He also raised money for mental health charities and counselling in the community."

Jordan, nine, was seriously injured when he was struck by lightning on playing fields off School Road around 5.05pm on Tuesday, May 11.

Emergency services attended and Jordan was taken to hospital, but sadly died a short time later.

The spokesperson added: "Our thoughts remain with Jordan’s family and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.

"A true angel taken too soon, may he rest in peace."
