  • Fare, who suffers with dementia and psychosis has been rendered unfit to be tried and is appearing at court via video-link from Guild Lodge, where he has been since October 2020.
  • A jury of eight men and four women have already been selected and sworn in.
  • Jurors will be making delivering a verdict based upon whether they find 'he did the act charged against him or not'.
  • The trial, at Preston Crown Court, is expected to last five days.
  • In a tribute last year, Ms Houghton's family said: "She was a happy soul that wouldn't hurt a fly. She has been taken from us too soon and is going to be deeply missed.”
