A Lancashire MP will write to the Prime Minister and Foreign Office asking the Government to call for an 'immediate halt to evictions and illegal settlement expansions' in Israel. On Friday, Palestinian medics said more than 200 Palestinians were wounded at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound and elsewhere in the city The current wave of protests broke out at the beginning of Ramadan three weeks ago when Israel restricted gatherings at a popular meeting spot outside Jerusalem’s Old City. Israel removed the restrictions, briefly calming the situation, but protests have reignited in recent days over the threatened evictions in east Jerusalem, which is claimed by both sides in their decades-old conflict. Police defended their actions as security moves, but these were seen as provocations by Muslims who accuse Israel of threatening their freedom of worship. Blackburn MP Kate Hollern said she had already written to Boris Johnson to raise her concerns. She said: "Ten days ago I wrote to the Prime Minister regarding his careless comments in response the fact that the Chief Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced that the Court is investigating alleged war crimes committed in the Occupied Palestinian Territories this is an important process to deliver justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators on all sides and hopefully see human rights being upheld.. "I was therefore concerned by the Prime Minister’s recent comments about the ICC’s investigation when he claimed that the investigation is a “partial and prejudicial attack. "The Prime Minister’s comments attempt to interfere in the work of the Court and, in effect draw into question its legitimacy; I believe send the complete wrong message on the seriousness of the issue and demonstrates that the UK Government is ignoring the illegal acts that are happening in Palestine. "I was outraged by the scenes I have just watched from Al-Aqsa Mosque , The threat of being accused of war crimes have been ignored, "The violent scenes need urgent action and the international community must call for an urgent intervention. Today I will be writing to Dominic Raab and the Prime Minister asking them to express our outrage to the Israeli Ambassador. "There is no justification for this action or violence at any time, but particularly reprehensible during the month of Ramadan. 10 Downing Street must condemn these actions and call for an immediate halt to these evictions and illegal settlement expansions and prevent a repeat of this completely unacceptable and incendiary action at one of Islam’s holiest months. "It is extremely important for the UK Government to be, and to be seen to be, an upholder of international law and condemn these violent acts, condemn these illegal evictions."
