TWO men are being treated in hospital after they were stabbed in a park.

Police were called at around 11.30am on Sunday to a report of an ongoing fight between several men with weapons in Corporation Park, Blackburn.

Officers attended and found two men with injuries.

One man had suffered head injuries, with a second man suffering stab wounds to his arm, chest and back. Both are in hospital.

Pictures from the scene show several police cars and vans plus an ambulance and rapid response vehicle at the park's gates on Sunday.

Inside the park, certain paths had been cordoned off to prevent public access.

A man who lives close to the park was walking down the street when all of the police vehicles turned up.

He said: "It was otherwise just a quiet Sunday morning, its not what you expect to see when you're having a walk.

"I just hope whatever has happened, that everyone is alright. Nobody wants these bad things happening around here, especially in the park where children are playing."

An investigation is underway and enquiries ongoing. No arrests have been made.

Detectives are appealing for information and urging anyone who witnessed the incident and has any information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Derry Crorken, of Blackburn Police, said: “We have launched an investigation after two men were attacked in Corporation Park today.

“I understand this must have been very frightening and concerning for many people who were in the park at the time and I want to reassure residents we are doing everything possible to arrest those responsible.

“This is being treated as very much an isolated incident and patrols have been increased in the area.

“If you can help our investigation, in particular any information about the offenders involved in the attack, please call 101 immediately quoting log 0519 of May 9.”
