AN INDEPENDENT coffee shop has launched a new range of cannabis coffee.

Frank St Coffee House, which serves takeaway hot drinks to Barnoldswick, Craven and the Ribble Valley, has been fortunate enough to stay open during the second and third lockdowns by adapting its seasonal menu and shop layout.

It was opened in 2019 by ex-coffee service technician David Stephenson, who believes the new cannabis coffee range could soon prove to be extremely popular.

He said: “It is as close to nature as you can get and a spoonful of it is like taking a bite out of the whole cannabis plant.

“It is delicious in coffee and particularly shines in hot chocolate and mochas.”

Frank St Coffee, on Newtown in Barnoldswick is the town’s only independent takeaway only coffee house.

The coffee is made using Hatcha, a legal milled cannabis product that gives a high dose of cannabidiol (CBD).

More conventional drinks include espressos, lattes, cappuccinos and hot chocolates, however Mr Stephenson believes it is the cannabis coffee that gives his shop its unique flavour.

The product is manufactured in the Netherlands and gives hot drinks a distinctive green colour and pine nut taste.

According to Frank Street Coffee House’s supplier, CBD can have health benefits including supporting consumer’s body balancing systems.

Mr Stephenson, who worked for 13 years serving coffee in other outlets before setting up his own shop, says that as well as pain relief CBD oil can be used to treat anxiety and depression.

He has also said that CBD’s ability to act on the endocannabinoid system and other brain signalling systems may provide benefits for those with neurological disorders as well as benefits for the heart and circulatory system, including the ability to lower high blood pressure.
