A MAN was detained by security staff after causing problems outside the Blackburn Cathedral Covid vaccination centre.

Blackburn magistrates Ryan James Walker was shouting and swearing and at one stage had a bottle in his hand which he raised above his head.

Walker, 25, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on the Boulevard. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £40 costs and £22 victim surcharge.

Janice Vallance, prosecuting, said police were called after security staff detained Walker.

"He was aggressive towards the officers and was clearly drunk," said Miss Vallance.

"He was put in the back of a van and started banging his head against the side. He was taken out and put in the recovery position and an ambulance had to be called."

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client apologised for his behaviour.

"He acknowledges that he should have been calmer," said Mr Taylor.
