The M65 eastbound was closed on Sunday night.

At approximately 10.30pm, police closed the M65 eastbound, at junction 10, within the junction, until just before midnight.

Traffic was brought off the motorway at the exit slip road and then directed to re-join the motorway via the entry slip road, due to what they described as a 'police incident'.

It is believed that someone in a mental health crisis needed assistance on the bridge close to Cavalry Way.

At the time a spokesperson for Highways England said: "The M65 eastbound at junction 10, Burnley/Padiham/A671, is closed within the junction.

"All traffic is being brought off via the exit slip, to then re-join via the entry slip road due to a police incident.

"Traffic Officers and Lancashire Road Police are currently at the scene."

At around 11.30pm officers stopped all traffic on the westbound carriageway while they removed the closure from the eastbound carriageway.

The motorway was fully re-opened by 11.45pm.

A spokesperson for the police later confirmed that they attended a 'concern for safety' call on Sunday evening at junction 10 of the M65.

It is believed the person involved is now being cared for by the appropriate agencies.
