A community hub is welcoming people for free computer drop-in sessions to help people who are still offline.

Community CVS, on Railway Road, is welcoming the public in Monday to Friday to help them develop life skills on a computer.

Whether it is to search and apply for jobs, sort out bills and banking, or access benefits and support - people will be on hand to help people who do not have access to the compter at home.

Recently, data showed that less people were online in Blackburn in 2020 than in 2019 - with 15.4 per cent of residents in the borough in 2020 have either not used the internet for at least three months or have never used it.

David, a previous attendee to the hubs drop-in, had worked all his life in the textile industry, but due to the pandemic was made redundant, and had been unable to get another job for over a year.

With no access to wi-fi or computers at home, and little knowledge of using the internet, he was finding it almost impossible to search and apply for work but with the support of Community CVS, he has now managed to get a job close to home.

David said: “I can’t thank them enough. They have encouraged me when I had little self-belief. I appreciate their efforts and I continue to build in my confidence.”

Chair of Community CVS, Paul Mason said: “Anyone who is struggling and needing some support to get online and access the internet at this difficult time, should not hesitate in coming to the digital drop-in at the Community Hub.

"The Community CVS staff are friendly and understanding.”

Residents can contact Community CVS anytime on 01254 583957 to book a place.

Places are available on a pre-booking basis, 10am – 11.30am, or 11.30am – 1pm on weekdays.

The digital drop-in is open to all, but residents are reminded to book in advance to reserve their place.
