THE Green Party has hailed fielding a record number of candidates in tomorrow's county council elections in East Lancashire.

Its election organiser Robin Field said it had a plan for a future after coronavirus.

He said: "Across East Lancashire, the Green Party is fielding a record number of candidates in the county elections this week.

"We a full slate of 15 hopefuls in all the Lancashire divisions within Burnley, Hyndburn, and Ribble Valley, with another five candidates contesting seats in Pendle and Rossendale.

"With 20 county council candidates all told, that's more than the LibDems.

"A recent poll by both IpsosMori showed the Greens are now the third party in England in terms of voting intentions for the Westminster government and support here seems to mirror that

"This side of the county we are betting most strongly on Andy Fewings in Burnley Central West

"Central to our campaign is the demand for a Green Recovery post-Covid, not simply a return to the old normal which has been responsible for both the pandemic and the climate emergency."
