THE MAY BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND officially kicks off today and many of us can look forward to a day off and much needed lie in on Monday.

Supermarket workers are no exception meaning the opening and closing times of major supermarkets are different to normal.

To prevent you getting caught out, we have compiled a list of the temporary timing changes that you need to be aware of in Blackburn.

The opening times of some specific stores may vary, so customers should check details on the company website before making their trip.

Tesco

The majority of stores across the UK appear to be open at 8am and close at 6pm or 8pm- but specific stores vary so use their store locator to find out more.

On the company website, Aldi said:"Planning a great Bank Holiday weekend? Don’t worry, your local Aldi will be open to help you make sure you’ve got everything you need. Our UK opening times are below, Scotland opening hours may vary."

Their UK opening times are:

Saturday 1 May- 8am-10pm
Sunday 2nd May- 10am-4pm
Monday 3rd May- 8am-8pm

There are Aldi branches on Bolton Street, Montague Road and Unit14Peel Centre Whitebirk.

A spokesperson for the company said their opening dates are the same as the rest of the UK.

Asda

In general, Asda stores will be opening from 8am to 8pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

Hours will differ on Saturday and Sunday but you can use the store locator to check specific branches.

Lower Audley Retail Park, Grimshaw Park Road

Saturday 1 May- 12:00am- 10pm
Sunday 2nd May- 10:30am-4:30pm
Monday 3rd May- 8am-8pm

Sainsbury’s

It’s business as usual on Saturday and Sunday- but hours will be different on Monday and opening hours will depend on size.

Sunday: 10am-4pm
Monday: 7am-9pm

Preston Old Road branch
Saturday: 8am-11pm
Sunday: 8am-11pm
Monday: 8am-11pm

Lidl

Lidl said majority of stores across England and Wales will be open from 8am to 8pm on bank holiday Monday.

Here are the general opening hours for the UK:

Saturday: 8am to 9pm

Sunday: 10am to 4pm
Monday: 8am-8pm

Both the Furthergate Works and Whalley Banks branches follow these opening hours too.

Morrisons

The majority of branches are open from 7am on Bank Holiday Monday.

They also have an ‘NHS hour’ for staff from 6am to 7am Monday through to Saturday.

On Sundays, the majority of stores open at 9am for NHS staff, then at 9.30am for all other customers to shop normally.

Sunday: 10am to 4pm

Bank Holiday Monday: 7am to 8pm
 

The Morrisons branch on Railway Road has the same opening hours as the majority of the UK.

The Preston New Road branch is open 24 hours- bank holiday Monday included.

The Openshaw Drive branch is open 7am-10pm everyday- bank holiday Monday is no exception.
