Enquiries are now underway to identify the deceased and to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. The cause of the fire remains under investigation with colleagues from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

Staff at neighbouring businesses, many of them also involved in the car trade, were shocked to hear of the discovery when we visited this afternoon.

An adjoining business said they had only heard of what had happened that day.

Another man who worked nearby, who asked not to be named said: “This is really shocking and upsetting for everyone.

“It is really sad to hear this.”

On Saturday six fire engines attended the fire with roads remaining closed throughout the evening due to a major incident being declared.  The fire service said the building had multiple vehicles inside.
