Fire crews were called to a blaze at a hardware shop in the early hours of Wednesday morning. 

At 1.13am, firefighters from Longridge and Preston attended the incident at the Swifts Hardware store on Warwick Street in Longridge.

Crews remained in attendance at 8.30am, damping down and checking for fire spread and hot spots. 

Swifts Hardware will remain closed today because of the blaze, which spread to the roof of the building.

It is believed a neighbouring store made the 999 call. 

A spokesperson for Swifts Hardware said: "A big thank you to our fire brigade and Berry Lane Bakery, Longridge for alerting them.

"Great work by you all. Thank you."

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters from Longridge and Preston attended a fire at a hardware shop on Warwick Street in Longridge in the early hours.

"The ground floor of the property was well alight when fire crews arrived and had spread to the roof of the building.

"Crews brought the fire under control using breathing apparatus, one main jet and a hose reel, alongside the aerial ladder platform and stinger appliance.

"Fire crews are currently still in attendance damping down."
