People are being asked to collectively walk around the county four times to raise awareness about better mental health.

Lancashire Mind is re-launching its successful Breaking Boundaries campaign which was launched last year which will see people walk the 417 - mile border of old Lancashire four times.

The project has been timed to run through mental health week – which runs from May 10 to May 16 – with people being asked to walk a collective 1,668 miles, with people being asked to pledge money for each mile they walk.

People joining in can contribute as many miles as they can manage, whether they run laps in their garden or count the steps on their daily dog walk.

The charity has lost up to 40 per cent of its fundraising income in the last 12 months due to cancelled events at a time that restrictions and lockdowns caused by the pandemic has meant that mental health and wellbeing has been brought to the forefront.

Fundraising lead Emma Bateson said: “Last year we challenged our supporters to travel the boundary once and they smashed it so this year we want to cover the boundary four times.

“That links in with the fact everyone has mental health and as a charity we are here for the 4 in 4 as well as the 1 in 4 who live with a mental health condition. We are doing this for everyone as everyone in Lancashire deserves to have good mental health.”
