The sun is out, the shops are open, the parks are filled with more people than ever.

It’s almost like nothing ever happened, eh?

Well, why not, we deserve it. But life always keep us on our toes, doesn’t it?

As soon as the sun peeps out and the beer gardens fill up, life throws a curveball in the shape of the European Super League.

Having already been condemned to a long-distance relationship with our clubs, they now want to dump us for someone with more cash.

With scouse blood running through my veins (and that blood is red mind, not blue) the idea of disbanding loyalties to Liverpool Football Club now feels very real.

The badge should now read “You’ll Sometimes Walk Alone, it Depends What They’re Offering”.

My Evertonian side of the family may not have as much recent success to shout about to the Red side (bar beating us the other month), but they at least have their dignity and pride.

Will we see a turn? Will Liverpool turn more blue?

What team are Mancunians left with? Gary Neville’s Salford FC may have an influx of ex-blues and reds.

Maybe it is a good riddance to those “big” clubs, with City and Arsenal – clubs that have never won a proper European trophy yet are welcomed into some European elite’s VIP area with open arms.

Arsenal are ninth in the Premier League too for pity’s sake! It doesn’t scream ‘big six’ to me.

Where’s Nottingham Forest’s invite? They won two European Cups under Brian Clough.

Where’s Aston Villa’s? They have won it too, more than you can say for Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Preston and Burnley have as many league titles as Spurs, who have one fewer than Blackburn. Are Rovers going to be getting a call? If it happens, which we can pray it doesn’t, maybe it will mean that we’ll have better title races, smaller teams reaching the top.

The sleeping giants of Lancashire might wake up and we can laugh at the “big” six whilst perched on their shoulder.

Forget City vs Liverpool, imagine Blackburn vs Burnley for the title.

Imagine, the Cotton Mills derby being the most watched match in the country, kids at school in Suffolk asking each other, “who you supporting for La Lanclasico?” Pubs in Cornwall ringing out with ‘No Nay Never’.

The Fylde Coast derby another hot fixture, Blackpool fans filling the streets of Fleetwood for a massive game. If only.

I can’t think of a single person that loves football who would think this ESL is a good idea, but then again, unfortunately it isn’t about people that love football.

That’s the tragedy of it all.
