A Blackburn-based rock band who have spent the last six years plugging away at the music industry have landed themselves a deal with a record label.

Novustory, who are fronted by female vocalist Imogen Storey, have been signed by London's Regent Street Records and will release a new single called Bad Tattoo next week (April 23).

The record deal means the band, who also have their own recording studio, Esche Haus Audio, in Blackburn town centre, could be featured on Sky, HBO, Netflix and BBC shows, as the label not only has a history of track placements on such channels but specialises in working with alternative artists across multiple genres.

Ms Storey said: "Being signed to a record label is something that pretty much every artist dreams of at some point in their life.

"After nearly six years of being an unsigned DIY band, forging connections, making contacts and plugging away every day pushing towards the dream, it still doesn’t feel real.

"To finally have some record label backing means everything and we couldn’t be more excited to release the tracks we’ve recorded in the studio we built in Blackburn town centre - Esche Haus Audio."

Ms Storey says the band, which also features 24-year-old drummer, James Duckworth, bass player Richard Blenkinson, 32, and lead guitarist Ben Cross, 30, have big plans for the future and hope their journey can inspire other artists across Lancashire who might be feeling slightly defeated due to gigs and events being cancelled due to lockdown.

The 26-year-old added: "The label contacted us after finding our music online and offered us a record deal so we drove to London and signed it.

"We have big plans that hopefully start with our track featuring on some Netflix shows...and end with us playing Wembley stadium...yes, that’s how big we’re dreaming.

"We’ve always taken a DIY approach to being in a rock band, we’ve grafted on our own for six years and previously weren’t fond of the idea of signing to a label as you hear horror stories, but it’s not often you come across a female founded ethically ran record label who specialise in sync contracts with alternative artists.

"All the late nights, lost friends, holidays cut short, birthdays missed and money spent has been worth it as it’s all led to this."

Regent Street Records was founded by California-born Vanessa Higgins in 2014 before she was headhunted to be the new managing director of Virgin Music UK.

She sold the label to Jon-Frode Bosåen last year.

Novustory's new single Bad Tattoo is out on Friday April 23.
