SUPERHERO fans have been thrilled to see one of Lancashire’s most iconic landmarks featured in the latest Batman comic.

A new mini-series released by DC Comics sees the caped crusader’s adventures come to England with a number of well-known locales featuring as backdrops, including our own Darwen Tower.

Nas Bat, owner of comic book store the Bat Cave based on Town Hall Street in Blackburn, noticed that Batman’s most recent backdrop appeared a bit closer to home than usual when he began selling the first edition of the mini-series.

Mr Bat, 45, said: “It was a customer who told me about it the day it came out.

“I looked at the copy and it comes about four pages in, it’s basically a Batman story set in England so the artists must be from the area or at least from England and they needed an English landmark for a plane to be coming down against.”

The dramatic scene features an aeroplane crashing right in front of Darwen Tower, closely followed by an attack helicopter.

Graffiti painted on the tower reads Batman 147, indicating that the events are somehow connected to the comic book, TV and cinema icon.

So far, it appears that the entirety of the mini-series, entitled Batman The Detective and written by comic book author, playwright and screenwriter Tom Taylor, will be featuring a British backdrop.

According to Mr Bat, the series is set to run to five or six editions in total.

This will give Bat-fans plenty of chances to keep their eyes out for any other local landmarks that may be featuring in the next few editions.

Mr Bat said: “It looks like the entire series will be set in England so we might be seeing some more of Darwen Tower or other settings in Lancashire later on.”

The comic store proprietor has already ordered several more copies of the issue and can order further copies for customers looking to see a landmark they know well featuring in such a famous series.

He has run the Bat Cave since 2010 and Batman’s Lancashire adventure could not have come at a better time for the store.

Mr Bat has just been able to reopen after closing due to coronavirus restrictions last December and hopes to see customers flocking back.
