A DOG grooming salon has merged with a beauty space offering acrylic nails and eyebrow tinting - so owners can get a makeover at the same time as their furry friends.

Mum and daughter Judi and Abi Pollard have joined forces at the dog grooming shop called Polished to Pawfection in Cross Street, Accrington.

After re-opening on Monday in line with government guidelines, the shop has had a makeover with a new nail tech area as well as a revamped dog grooming set-up.

Customers can bring their dog for grooming by 50-year-old mum Judi and get their nails done by 17-year-old Abi at the same time.

Judi said: “We came up with the idea few years ago and loads of my customers were coming in and saying they were going to get their nails done or a haircut.

“Since my daughter is a qualified nail technician, we decided to put both things together and it worked.”

Abi is studying at Blackburn College and is also qualified as an make-up artist, to do eyebrow tinting, waxing and will be working on getting her hairdressing qualification next.

She said: “It made sense just to do it together.

“In the past if you go to get your dog groomed, it is a kennel atmosphere, so we wanted to be a more homely atmosphere.

“Customers can stay with their dogs this way, especially as people have been staying at home with their dogs at home.”

As customers walk in, they are greeted with a pink beauty station and can choose a service for themselves, or go into the back, where they can drop their dogs off.

Judi said: “It is just natural for us to do this and Abi has always been into beauty, so this is a chance for her to put her skills to work.

“People have been loving it because it is so different and outside of the box."

But the duo also welcome those who just want to get their dogs groomed or someone without a dog who may want their nails done.

Judi said: “This isn’t just for people with dogs, anyone can come in and chat to us.

“People even walk past the shop, look through the windows or come in and ask if they can look around, so that’s been really lovely.

“It’s a twenty-first century modern take on things.”

Abi and Judi also have two dogs, a chihuahua called Cooper and a pug called Nellie, who has her own space at the shop.
