A man is in hospital with serious head injuries after shots were fired in a house on Easter Monday.

Residents in Clitheroe are now being reassured by officers, after a large police presence was spotted in Green Drive on Monday afternoon.

Police received initial reports that a man armed with a gun had been making threats towards people, however, they have since confirmed there are no wider threats to the public.

A spokesperson for the police said: "You may have seen a large police presence in the Green Drive area of Clitheroe on Monday so we wanted to let you know what happened.

"We were called at around 2.30pm to an address on the street to reports a man, aged in his 70s, had been injured with a firearm.

"He remains in hospital undergoing treatment for serious head injuries.

"It was initially reported that the man had been making threats towards other people with a firearm, however it was later established this had not been the case.

"We would like to reassure you that there is not thought to have been any third party involvement and there were no wider threats to the public."
