A dispersal order has been issued in an area of Burnley this evening to help police deal with those breaking Covid guidelines.

The police have issued the dispersal order in the area around Thurston Street.

It will be reviewed at 2am tomorrow (April 6) and the order covers Belverdere Road, Yorkshire Street, Ormerod Road and Church Street, as shown on the map.

This comes two days after a seperate dispersal order was put in place and one arrested in the Woodbine Road area on Saturday.

It has been put in place to battle ongoing Covid restrictions and will allow police to disperse people who may be breaking Covid rules or are likely to act in an anti-social manner in the area.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Police have this evening responded to a series of incidents of anti-social behaviour in the area around Thurston Street, Burnley.

"As a result of these incidents a Dispersal order has been authorised under S.34 Anti-social behaviour, Crime and Police Act 2014.

"This dispersal order is to supplement the ongoing Covid restrictions and will allow police to disperse any persons that are or are likely to act in an anti-social manner in the area.

"Please continue to adhere to current COVID regulations. There will be a visible Police presence in the area to provide reassurance to the public."

This weekend was the first time groups of up to six could meet outside since last year.
