THE final phase of a £10m project to create a total of 67 new affordable homes in an East Lancashire town has been completed.

Phase Three of the Station Road development in Padiham began in August 2019 and finished last week, marking the completion of the wider project as Calico Homes welcomed new residents into their homes.

It has provided an additional 26 general needs affordable homes, consisting of one three-bedroom house, three two-bedroom houses, 11 one-bedroom ground floor cottage flats and 11 two-bedroom first floor cottage flats.

The development first began in 2018 and was welcomed by local residents who were keen to see the formerly derelict land put to good use.

It had replaced a well-known eyesore in Padiham, bringing a mix of much-needed houses, bungalows and apartments to the area, all available for affordable rent.

Calico Homes has also worked with the nearby Padiham Primary School throughout the development to help ease traffic congestion at the school gates.

It funded and created a woodland path, with input from the pupils, to develop a green route to the school for nearby families to use.

It has invested £10,235,647 into the Station Road development, with £2,772,000 of this provided through funding granted by Homes England.

One new resident said: “The team at Calico Homes have done a tremendous job getting these fantastic houses and flats ready for the community. “

Mark Beach, managing director at Calico Homes, said: “By completing this development, Calico Homes has now provided even more affordable homes in the area.

“I wish all of our residents at Station Road the best in their new homes.

“Over the next 12 months, we will continue to deliver new homes and finalise plans detailing how we will invest in our existing homes over the next five years.”
