FILMING for hit gangster TV series the Peaky Blinders looks set to get underway in East Lancashire in the coming days.

Film crews have set-up camp close to the Lee Quarry in Rossendale with rumours rife that members of notorious Shelby clan will shortly arrive in the county.

It comes after Cillian Murphy (below), who plays the show’s main character Thomas Shelby, was pictured in Bolton last week as filming for the eagerly anticipated series six continued.

Peaky Blinders is one of the BBC’s most successful dramas and has become cult viewing since it began in 2013.

Jayne Turner was out walking in Bacup on Good Friday when she came across several tents and equipment in the picturesque corner of Lancashire.

She said: “We can see Lee Quarry from our bedroom windows and had noticed lights up there at night.

“My son heard they were filming Peaky Blinders. We often walk up to Lee Quarry so on Good Friday we went up and there was a barrier across the path and a Security Guard on duty. We were allowed to walk through but asked not to ‘go near the sets.’

“At the moment they are only setting up ready for filming so there were no cameras or actors around.

“The views are absolutely spectacular up there and the Quarry itself will make a stunning backdrop.”

Many others have commented on crews setting up in the area, which has proved a popular location for filming in recent years – with Sky One choosing the borough to film their popular comedy Brassic, which stars Michelle Keegan.

It is not known how long crews are planning on staying in Rossendale.
