AN East Lancashire MP has vowed to go out litter picking as part of her backing the 'Great British Spring Clean.'

Hyndburn Conservative Sara Britcliffe has thrown her support and efforts behind charity Keep Britain Tidy's annual campaign.

The environmental drive, which runs from May 28 to June 13, calls on the public to pledge to clean-up and help the charity achieve a million miles of litter-picking.

This year’s campaign comes as the charity has reported a big increase in the numbers who have started litter-picking during the various lockdowns and follows mountains of waste being dumped in public open spaces as restrictions eased this week.

Miss Britcliffe said: “Keeping our streets clean is something that I have always been passionate about and have been working locally to try and make sure our beautiful home is kept green and clean.

"We have some brilliant groups already across Hyndburn and Haslingden that do so much work all year round.

"I will be joining these groups throughout the Great British Spring Clean and would ask all to join the campaign.”

Keep Britain Tidy chief executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “We are delighted to have the support of Sara Britcliffe MP for this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

The Great British Spring Clean is now in its sixth year.
