The fire service are asking people not to worry or panic if they see smoke coming from moorland today.
Fire crews have been made aware of a controlled burn which is currently taking place on Longridge Fell.
From a distance the fire may appear out of control or may look serious, but the fire service are asking people not to worry as the burn is under control.
Controlled burns usually take place in order to turn the ground over ready for the change of seasons and is usually necessary as otherwise uncut moorland vegetation may act as a fuel source in the event of an uncontrolled fire.
The Game and Wildlife Trust say process is also carried out to benefit wildlife that may live on the land.
A spokesperson from the fire service said: "A controlled burn is currently taking place on Longridge Fell - if you see smoke or fire engines in the vicinity, don’t worry.
"This is an exercise that we are aware of and have under control."
