Blackburn with Darwen is now the only borough in East Lancashire to record a rise in its coronavirus infection rate.

With falls in every other area, except Hyndburn where rates remained the same, Blackburn with Darwen's infection rate rose to 110.9 in the seven days to March 25, up from 104.2 in the seven days to March 18.

This means the borough has one of the highest infection rates in the whole of England, and now sits 22nd out of 315 local authority areas, and is the only area in East Lancashire to have a rate above 100 cases per 100,000 people.

The picture is slightly more disappointing in the rest of Lancashire however, as Preston, Chorley and Lancaster also recorded increases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 135 have seen a rise in case rates, 172 have seen a fall and eight are unchanged.

Corby in Northamptonshire continues to have the highest rate in England, with 170 new cases recorded in the seven days to March 25, the equivalent of 235.4 cases per 100,000 people.

This is up from 189.7 per 100,000 in the seven days to March 18.

Rotherham has the second highest rate, up from 144.3 to 169.2, with 449 new cases.

Barnsley has the third highest rate, down from 195.7 to 157.2, with 388 new cases.

The five areas with the biggest week-on-week rise are:

Breckland (52.2 to 90.0)

Tendring (34.1 to 69.6)
