A WOMAN turned up at a former friend's house at 9.45am armed with a baseball bat.

Blackburn magistrates heard Katrina Corkin used the implement to smash a window before leaving the scene.

Corkin, 23, of Borrowdale Avenue, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to a window belonging to Leah Volkert and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. She was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Samantha Hayward, prosecuting, said Miss Volkert called the police to report the incident and named Corkin. She said they had had an argument before the defendant turned up with the baseball bat.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said there was a history between the two women which had resulted in threats being made by both parties.

"She has some of the threats sent to her on her phone and they are threatening some horrible things," said Mr Taylor.

He said Corkin went round to have it out with the other woman and in her mind took the baseball bat for protection.

"She says that when Ms Volkert opened the door she spat at her," said Mr Taylor.

"She accepts she lost her temper and used the bat to smash the window before running off. She has no previous convictions and this is not the way she normally behaves."
