A BICYCLE RACK maker has seen a bump in demand with cyclists looking forward the chance to get out and about over Easter.

Bike riders are also looking forward to the opportunity to meet up with friends again and go for group rides again as lockdown restrictions start to ease from March 29 onwards.

As a result Pendle Bike Racks has seen demand soar.

Managing director Chris Smith said: “Cycling is one of the few outdoor activities that was still given the seal of approval by the government, albeit under tighter restrictions, and so to be able to plan an Easter break where you can meet up with five other households will be music to the ears of many in the cycling fraternity.

“It’s been a difficult time for so many and so my advice would be to embrace the bike and use cycling as the link to your next adventure!

"Not only will it be a welcome break from endless Zoom calls or the pressure of home schooling but cycling is a proven way to boost and support mental health and wellbeing and so if you are not already a cyclist I would certainly encourage you to consider this as your new hobby for 2021.”

The Nelson-based company, which makes racks, trailers and accessories for bicycles, says it has already detected the growing excitement and has noticed is a rise in demand.

Mr Smith said that within 48 hours of the government's announcement that exercise is to be allowed if you can travel safely to get there, he already saw a surge in interest from customers

He said: “With the addition of a bike rack to your car, it makes it so easy to safely travel to meet with friends to be able to do a cycle route that bit further afield from what we have been allowed ;and gets you out and about with your friends that are just as passionate about cycling and the great outdoors as you are!”
