Over 4,000 candles have been laid out in Blackburn Cathedral to remember all of those who have lost their lives to Covid-19 in the past 12 months.
Marking one year of lockdown, the candles will be lit tomorrow (March 23) from 10am to remember the 4,161 people who have died in Lancashire in the past year.
Six large candles will also be lit for people facing the brunt of the pandemic, representing those who have died, those who are grieving, those who are ill, those working on the front line, those who are struggling economically and emotionally, and those who are leading us out of the pandemic.
Another large candle will be lit for hope.
The Dean of Blackburn, the Very Rev Peter Howell-Jones will lead a one minute’s silence at noon which will be followed by the tolling of the cathedral bell.
The Cathedral will be open from 10am to 4pm for people to stop, pray and remember and prayers will be said on the hour every hour.
There will be short act of worship at 10 am before the start of the candle lighting
