POLICE officers attending a house fire in Bacup on Saturday morning discovered a cannabis farm in the upstairs of the property.

New Line (A6066) was closed for several hours while fire crews tackled a blaze at a mid-terraced house.

It was reported that nobody was injured during the incident and firefighters brought the fire under control using two hose reels and breathing apparatus.

Police were called to the scene and found the cannabis farm inside the house, believed to be the cause of the blaze.

It has since been dismantled and officers have warned of the fire hazard posed by cannabis farms.

Police said: "This morning officers were called out to a property on New Line in Bacup from our friends over at Lancashire Fire and Rescue.

"Upon attending the address, it has come to light that there was a cannabis farm located in the upstairs of the property.

"This cannabis set-up has caused the property to set alight.

"Officers have now removed the set-up which has put the neighbouring families, residing in the adjacent properties, lives and homes in danger.

"This also meant that the road had to be closed whilst the fire was safely dealt with and the property secured, which caused disruption within the community.

"Some of you may have the belief that cannabis is harmless, but as we can see here these set-ups have a complete disregard for community safety and are at high risk of causing serious harm."
