A MAN who burgled a takeaway stole a small amount of coins and a bag of king prawns.

Blackburn magistrates heard when the owner of the takeaway went to his property the following morning he found the freezer door had been left open and all the food had defrosted and had to be thrown away.

Aftab Hussain, 28, of Ormerod Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to burglary at the Asha Takeaway, Whalley Road, Accrington and theft of loose change and a bag of king prawns. He was fined £150 and ordered to pay £250 compensation and £34 victim surcharge.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said CCTV showed Hussain enter the shop through a side door and search the premises.

The shop owner put the CCTV footage on Facebook and Hussain was identified as the man responsible.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client had been drinking at home and as a result his partner fell out with him.

"He left the house and in his drunken state thought the takeaway was open even though it was 5am," said Mr Price.

"I understand the people who own the takeaway are known to my client and his family and some apologies have already been made."
