PLANS have been submitted for 25 homes on an ‘eyesore’ former mill site.

Housing association the Calico Group wants to build the properties on the ex-Albert Mill in Mary Street in Rishton.

If passed, the scheme will see a mixture of two storey three-bed and four-bedroom properties.

Cllr Jeff Scales, who represents the Rishton ward, said the new scheme was acceptable for the mill site.

He said: “It is positive that there is going to be development on that site.

“I am also satisfied to an extent as there were issues with previous applications as the only access was one road in and out onto the main road Station Road.

“It would have only exacerbated the problems with traffic in the area and the bottlenecks.

“It is also good to see a vacant factory site being used for housing instead of green fields which developers seem keen to do.

“It has been a bit of an eyesore for years and we have had incidents of fly-tipping there and also plants such as Japanese knotweed growing.”
