A POLICE officer was injured when both his car and the vehicle he was pursuing crashed in a late-night incident.
At around midnight on Sunday, officers attempted to stop the driver of a Renault car in Clitheroe.
The driver failed to stop and in the pursuit ended up crashing before the police car hit a tree.
A police spokesman said: "Following a short pursuit a Renault car was involved in a crash close to Edisford Bridge, with a police car colliding with a tree.
"The man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital having suffered broken ribs.
"A police officer suffered minor injuries."
The road was closed for several hours until yesterday morning.
