Parents need to 'call their children home' after police warned that 'hanging around being anti-social in large groups' was not classed as exercise.

Officers in Bacup said they witnessed large groups of teens gathering in the town centre on Friday evening, despite the country still being under lockdown.

And if the behaviour continued, police said they would fine the parents of those children who were in breach of Covid regulations.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We understand that children are now back at school but it is not acceptable for children to be in large groups in the town centre.

"Hanging around and being anti-social in large groups is not exercise.

"We are requesting parents that have children out and about around Bacup to be called home as they are breaching Covid restrictions which parents CAN and WILL be fined for."
