Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s 2021Cross Bay Walk is back in business, after the pandemic forced the event online last year.

The annual fundraiser will take place on June 6, and registration for the charity’s 300 places is now open.

The iconic eight-mile walk starts at Arnside Pier and finishes at Kents Bank Train Station. Morecambe Bay, with its fast tides and quick sands, can only be safely crossed with help from an official guide.

Leading the way will be Michael Wilson, a Queen’s Guide and local fisherman, who took up the post in 2019.

The walk, which takes approximately four hours and is suitable for children aged eight plus and for dogs, will take place in accordance with social distancing guidelines.

Chief officer Dan Hill said: “Crossing the Bay is something you can’t just go off and do by yourself. It’s too dangerous so you have to join an organised group and there are only certain times of the year when group crossings are possible. It’s a limited season and as there were no crossings at all last year because of the coronavirus pandemic, Michael is expecting a greater demand than usual this year from people wanting to make the traverse.”
