A GROUP of volunteers have been handing out food to vulnerable people in Blackburn.

The Sufi Council UK is a Blackburn organisation which set up a ‘Food Drive’ recently.

Salman Ashraf from the group said: “It’s not our room to judge those on our streets, our job is to simply hand out and fulfil our duty as a good Muslim in serving the community.

“Volunteers visited the town centre, Darwen Street, King Street, The Salvation Army and temporary housing outside Shadsworth leisure centre to distribute food there.

“A huge thank you to our team members brother Tahir, Huzaifah, Nayim, Yameen, Zainul, Shoayb and Umer.”

The group has links to the Sufi Council of Toronto, Canada.

Salman added: “We are working with local mosques and local leaders in our community to try and bring about change. Our elders from Canada have always advised us that the real work of the religion is to give back to the community and with this we aim to inspire the next generation and motivate them to pursue similar activities. We encourage everyone who follows our work to lend a helping hand and support the cause. Simply sharing our work or volunteering for one of our projects will be of great help.”
