TODAY the idea of a football club getting a new stadium is nothing out of the ordinary but in the early 1990s it was something of a rarity.
Blackburn Rovers owner Jack Walker wanted the club’s Ewood Park ground to match his ambition for the club itself and in 1993 a massive building programme was underway - the traditional little ground didn’t know what had hit it.
Down came the stands, out went the terraces upon which generations had stood to cheer on their team. And in their place gradually emerged a modern stadium which, for its time, was the envy of many clubs.
Of course, the success that followed on the pitch is well-documented, with Blackburn Rovers taking the Premier League title at the end of the 1994-95 season but the club also had a ground to match.
