HAPPY Mondays star Bez is changing up the pace as he launches a new YouTube series learning yoga — from a Lancashire Telegraph reporter.

Mark Berry, better known as Bez, has been learning the discipline from reporter Amy Farnworth, 35, who has been teaching yoga for more than a year and practising for six years, to create the series, Get Mellow with Bez.

It comes after the Bolton-born man with the maracas launched Get Buzzin’ With Bez in January, which received a brilliant response with the first episode raking in more than 160,000 views.

During this training, Bez expressed his interest in trying yoga and his trainer referred the 56-year-old dancer to Amy, who teaches at Tessa Clemson Yoga in Great Harwood, and she began teaching him about six weeks ago.

Bez said: “I’m really enjoying learning yoga, I can feel myself getting more flexible each week.

“I’ve never done it before but thought I needed to try it to help me as I’m not getting any younger and I need to be able to carry on dancing on stage.

“It’s been great working with Amy, she’s a great teacher and I’m looking forward to carrying on for as long as I can.”

Since his first week, Amy has gone on to teach Bez more about the discipline and can see the week on week improvement in one of her icons.

Due to the lockdown, the sessions have taken place over Zoom, with Amy recalling some funny moments including when his dog made an appearance.

The Zoom classes did have draw backs in that Amy was unable to make sure Bez was moving correctly or had the correct alignment as she would be able to do during an in person class.

She said: “Bez has taken to it like a duck to water. He loved it.

"I could definitely see an improvement week to week, and I think coupled with his healthy eating and his exercise regime, he’s really made progress in every aspect of his health.

“The benefits of yoga are incredible, and Bez has just proven that it doesn’t matter how old you are, how inflexible you think you are, or how unfit you deem yourself to be, by practising regularly it can help improve your mood, balance, posture and overall health and wellbeing.

“He’s such a good laugh, and so down to earth and he was an amazing student too, really keen to learn.

"He really got into the classes and after a while I just felt like I was teaching a mate.”

There will be four episodes in the series which debuted on YouTube on Sunday night with one episode released daily since, concluding on Wednesday morning.
