OUR readers have reacted to calls for action on a dangerous road in East Lancashire.

The Lancashire Telegraph reported how Cllr Peter Britcliffe appealing for highways chiefs to improve road safety especially at the zebra crossing on Blackburn Road in Oswaldtwistle.

After the story featured in the paper, some readers responded saying it is an issue with drivers across the board.

level said: "I completely agree with Peter and Sara (Britcliffe) about measures have to be put in place.

"However, I do feel that the issue of the young males in BMW and Mercedes using Hyndburn's roads as a race track needs to be tackled.

"These speeding drivers are getting away with the reckless driving day in day out.

"All of Hyndburn residents are tired of it. Very few police pulling these up.

"Also parking on Blackburn Road near bottom of Willows Lane up to Antley Methodist is terrible.

"People parking on yellow lines, over the kerbs to use those shops is beyond a joke and will result in more accidents.

"It's sad driving down Blackburn Rd from West End into Accrington these days to see the complete and utter disregard for traffic laws by some sections of the community."

Akkybro added: "'All of Hyndburn residents are tired of it', Agreed.

"What we can do to help is catch them on our phones and send the videos to the LT and the local police and hopefully something might get done."

accymasher said: "The problem with that zebra crossing is that people park on the ZigZags regularly.

"I have just been past now and there is a white van and a black car and I often have to slow right down to ensure that no one is crossing.

"We need people to report this or get traffic wardens to police this area properly and not just nine to five.

"The area of Blackburn road near its junction with the bottom of Willows Lane often has cars bumped up on the pavements, usually not enough room for a double buggy and this is on both sides. We need to get it done NOW.

"The whole driving standard in Hyndburn is abysmal, with two near misses in the space of a few minutes where people have driven the wrong way around a mini roundabout (and I mean on the wrong side of the road) with one of these encounters resulting in me having to do a very prompt emergency stop."

ted01 added: "There are no dangerous roads just the idiots that mis-use them."

vicn56 said: "A pelican crossing will help or even average speed cameras will but are expensive - but what are lives worth? Until you fine the racers and take their cars off them this will continue.

"Why are speed cameras only operating during 9-5? It's at tea time and during the night when the racers are about. I live half a mile from the road yet you can hear Formula 1 drivers between 9pm and midnight regularly."
