A CAR full of people sniffing gas were among hundreds of people officers had to deal with over the weekend for breaching coronavirus regulations.

Officers attended 281 incidents on Saturday alone, with many more people spoken to on Friday and Sunday.

Among those breaching regulations in Lancashire were a car full of unrelated people sniffing gas.

Several house parties were broken up with attendees fined and officers were also forced to visit a gym which has continued to open despite the lockdown.

DCC Terry Woods said: “We’re all looking forward to releasing lockdown, but to pass each stage we all need to keep our discipline and abide by the guidance.

“In just 24hrs Saturday Lancashire Police dealt with 281 COVID incidents, one of our highest 24hr periods. Please folks let’s keep doing it for Lancashire.”

Describing the type of incidents officer were called to he said: “Lots of house parties, a gym open, nine Wigan non student types trying to crash Lancs student digs to start a party, car full of unrelated people sniffing gas, travelling to Lancs from long distances away ‘for a drive’ - just a selection from a long list.”

Friday and Sunday night, up from 360 the weekend before.

Among many other people to be fined was a pub landlord from Nelson who was busted after they were found serving customers.

In Blackburn another man was fined after it was established that he had failed to self-isolate after returning from abroad.
