IT WAS once Blackburn’s premier hotel used to welcoming footballers, pop stars and even WWF wrestlers.
A large area off Yew Tree Drive was cleared as work began in in constructing the Saxon Inn in 1971 and the hotel opened the following year.
With its distinctive triangular roof, it soon became a familiar sight to travellers heading to and from the M6 and was soon THE place to go for business functions and for weddings.
The Saxon Inn would later become the Moat House and then the County Hotel before the building was demolished in 2001 to make way for a housing development.
It may have only been around for 40 years but no doubt many readers will have their own particular memories of a night at the Saxon Inn.
