A ROAD in Rawtenstall was closed off earlier today after a council street cleaner was reported to have caught fire.

Firefighters from Rawtenstall and Bacup attended the scene on Downham Avenue off Hollin Road, Rawtenstall earlier this afternoon after receiving reports of the fire at around 2.10pm.

Firefighters used four hose reels, a fog spike, a triple extension ladder, a thermal imaging camera and small tools to extinguish the fire.

Crews then worked to make the scene safe and were in attendance for two hours.

Rossendale Borough Council officials then took responsibility for clearing the debris from the scene.
