Police officers were pelted with eggs by a group of 20 kids as they tried to deal with a breach of Covid regulations.

On Thursday night, officers were sent to Gorton Street in Blackpool after receiving reports that up to 20 youths were gathering in the area, despite lockdown restrictions prohibiting such social interactions.

Police say the teenagers were 'acting in an anti-social manner' and started throwing eggs at them when they tried to disperse the crowd.

Officers are now advising parents to keep an eye on their children, as current regulations state they should not be out of their homes unless they are taking exercise with one other person, or are making an essential journey.

On Thursday evening, a spokesperson for the police said: "Do you know where your child is?

"We are currently dealing with up to 20 youths in the Gorton Street area breaching Covid regulations and acting in an antisocial manner including throwing eggs at attending officers."

It is not known if the youths were cautioned or apprehended, or if any of their parents were handed fines.
