A PUB landlord has been fined after they opened their doors to the public over the weekend.

Officers were called to the venue in Nelson following reports from the public. Once inside they found the licensee, who was later fined £1,000, serving customers.

In Blackburn another man was fined after he was found to not be self-isolating after returning from abroad.

DCC Terry Woods told BBC Radio Lancashire that in total, officers attended 544 covid-related incidents over the weekend – up from 360 the weekend before.

He said: “We issued 162 tickets. The two main areas, as always, are house parties and gatherings in houses followed by unnecessary travel.

“One job of note was a pub in Nelson where information from the public suggested they were open and serving. We attended and after gaining entry found the licensee serving customer – they were fined £1,000.

“Second was a guy from Blackburn who had returned from abroad and the border agency gave us information. We attended and he wasn’t isolating as you have to after returning from abroad. He was prosecuted and fined.

“As always, thank you to the majority. We see the majority doing their best. We really focus and target on the minority, and my goodness there are a lot of tickets at the moment being issued to people who are not doing their best.”
